PMI - A Platform for Project Management Certification

Jerry Corr, GIS Project Executive of Ocean Sky Consulting, Inc., has extensive experience in designing, implementing, and delivering Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology projects with Esri's ArcGIS software for Fortune 500 companies. To augment this work, Jerry Corr has held a professional membership with the Project Management Institute (PMI) for 4+ years.

PMI is a professional organization that focuses on supporting anyone whose work involves project, portfolio, or program management. Since 1969, its mission has been carried out through advocacy, education, research, and collaboration that will prepare professionals for a “project economy,” where work is organized around projects.

One of the pathways that this mission is carried out is through Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Professionals in various fields contribute to establishing industry standards, which are based on rigorous benchmarks and current research.

PMP certification focuses on the skills needed to be a competent project manager. Certification requires that the professional have three years’ experience in leading projects, a bachelor’s degree, and 35 professional development hours in project management or CAPM certification. If the person only holds a high school diploma, certification requires that he or she have five years of experience leading projects, in addition to the 35 hours of project management professional development or CAPM certification.

Mr. Corr will be attending the 2020 PMI Global Conference, "POWERING THE PROJECT ECONOMY" which will be held in Seattle, Washington from October 17-19, 2020. Interested Project Management professionals can visit the PMI global conference website to get more information regarding this event at https://www.pmi.org/global-conference.
